How long have you been at Patterson-Schwartz? How did you grow with the company?
How long I’ve been with Patterson-Schwartz depends on where you start measuring from. I’ve been an employee for 21 years, but I was a vendor working with PSA for 13 years before that—so long that people already thought I was an employee when it was announced that I was coming on board.
Why did you choose Patterson-Schwartz?
I think we both chose each other. Since I was a vendor, I knew they were looking for an IT person. I was helping with interviews and nobody was standing out. One day I mentioned to Sue Kennedy (who served as IT manager until her 2024 retirement) that I was thinking I might be ready for a change; she talked to her boss and, the next thing I know, I’m being hired. I set my start date as April 1 just so I could have fun with it.
What keeps you here?
I stay with Patterson-Schwartz because it’s a comfortable environment to work in, I’ve installed just about every piece of computer equipment here, so I know it like the back of my hand. I work with a lot of great people. The connections you get from working with people you’ve known for years is wonderful.
What things did you find surprising once you started your career?
The laid-back nature of management. I expected a more corporate environment and found a more family-style environment.
How would you describe the culture at Patterson-Schwartz?
Patterson-Schwartz is a company that cares. You’re not a faceless number—from top to bottom, managers care about the people they are working with.
What opportunities has working here given you?
Vacation time! When I was self-employed, there was not much vacation time.

Sue Kennedy!!! LOL
Do you have a motto that you follow for your business, real estate, or in general?
One day at a time.
What is the key to your success? And your greatest strengths?
Perseverance. A curiosity to follow a loose thread.
What’s your best advice for someone new to the industry?
Keep Learning, never stop learning.
What do you do when you’re not at the office?
I’ve learned that every day is a workday; it just depends on whether or not you’re being paid for it. There are the usual chores: cleaning, cutting the grass, weeding the gardens, but then there are fun things like playing with the dogs, putting books in Little Free Libraries that need books, day trips, hiking, fishing, golfing, dinner with friends, or just plain sitting by the firepit smoking a cigar.
What is your favorite season in Delaware and why?
Gardening season.
